Teaching Your Children the Importance of Good Oral Hygiene

If children are still young, their lifetime of perfect dental hygiene should start as soon as possible. Teaching your kids how to take care of their teeth early is a practice that will serve them well for the rest of their lives, making sure that their healthy and pretty white teeth will last well into adulthood.

Because children were not born learning how and when to take proper care of their teeth, or are even willing to do so at such a young age, it is up to the people in their lives like their parents, health professionals, and teachers to teach them how to do it adequately. Below are a handful of suggestions that you can use to get your kids on the road to great oral hygiene.

Brush and Floss Together

Children can’t learn from a pamphlet on how to brush and floss their teeth; they need to see someone that knows how to do it and have them correct their mistakes. Brushing and flossing with your kids can go a long way. It’s leading by example and ensuring they do it right

Visit the Dentist Regularly

Schedule a check-up with a dentist at least every six months or, if necessary, as often as needed. A dentist may help catch early signs of cavities and corrosion of a tooth, as well as treat other problems such as orthodontic work.

Teach Them about Eating Right

Eating the proper foods can help tremendously in making sure that the teeth of your children are protected. Avoid sugars and starches, as they can lead to harmful bacteria developing in their mouths. Also, make sure that children drink plenty of water often to help them clean their mouths.

Use Fluoride

As far as water is concerned, the type you use should be fluoridated to prevent tooth decay. Try using a mouthwash or other substitutes if the water in your area does not contain fluoride.

Staff is very friendly. No wait time. They saw me and my daughter in a timely manner and Dr. Richards was so great! The work I had done was completely pain free... Didn't even feel the shot or the work that was being done. The end results were exactly what I needed! No pain, no complaints. Dr. Richards even called the same evening to see if I was feeling okay and to see if I had any questions... Best dental services I have ever had.Marisa B.
